Green Armor Solutions™ Introduces Identity Cues Two Factor™
User Friendly Two-Factor and Two-Way Authentication System Exceeds FFIEC Guidelines and Protects Against Phishing and Other Forms of Online Fraud
Hackensack, NJ - December 8, 2005 - At today’s Information Security show in New York, Green Armor Solutions announced the release of Identity Cues Two Factor, an innovative system that both provides secure two-factor authentication of users to online systems as well as informs users of those systems whether they are interacting with the legitimate business system or with a criminal’s phishing site.
Identity Cues Two Factor offers greater user convenience than was previously possible when implementing two-factor (and two-way) authentication. It requires no user enrollment, no added steps to the user login process, no user training, and little ongoing maintenance. True two-factor authentication takes place behind the scenes, and obvious cues enable all users to instinctively recognize whether or not they are interacting with an intended legitimate business.
The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) has instructed financial institutions in the United States to implement two-factor authentication for all online account access by the end of 2006. While two-factor authentication is often inconvenient, Identity Cues Two Factor exceeds FFIEC guidelines and delivers both two-way and two-factor authentication in the manner most convenient for users.
Patent-pending technology authenticates users as well as the computers that they use for access. Two-factor authentication takes place “behind the scenes;” users type their login names & passwords as they always have – with no added steps. When a user accesses from an unknown machine, a separate two-factor authentication mechanism is activated. For that login, the user uses a one-time password sent to him via an email message, delivered to him using SMS to his cellphone, or generated by a third-party product such as a hardware token. Alternatively, the initial login may leverage another means of two-factor authentication – such as biometrics.
To further protect against phishing and other forms of online fraud, Identity Cues Two Factor generates visual cues by applying one-way cryptographic functions to user-entered text and a series of secret keys known only to the organization running the system. Based on the result of the calculations, cues are selected and displayed in user’s web browser. Only the genuine site can generate the proper cue for any particular user; if no cue or an incorrect cue is displayed, it will be obvious to even an untrained novice that something is very wrong with the site.
Identity Cues Two Factor delivers true two-factor authentication whenever a user accesses the system. It never relies on users answering questions (whose answers can often be obtained by criminals even easier than passwords can) in lieu of a true two-factor sign on.
Identity Cues Two Factor is delivered as software that easily integrates with existing web sites and that scales to meets the needs of organizations of all sizes.
Identity Cues Two Factor complements Green Armor Solutions’ earlier offerings, Identity Cues for Websites and Identity Cues for Email, which inform users whether or not a website or email message is legitimate without requiring any conscious effort on the part of users.
Identity Cues products allow users to continue to enjoy familiar online user experiences while improving security and privacy, protecting sensitive data and personal identities, and re-establishing trust in online banking and e-commerce.
